To get the bass properly refinished it will cost big bucks. You can buy cans of lacquer made for musical instruments, but that gets expensive. If you do it yourself, use a chemical stripper. Never sand the finish off of the wood. Then you have to spray sealing coats on the bare wood. The color coats are going to take up a lot of cans. You have to lightly sand between coats, and the final coat will take a lot of fine water sanding and buffing.
If the bass sounds good just let it go. |

Do not refinish. Your bass will actually loose value when the orginal finish is removed. The only way I would refinish would be if all the orginal finish was gone. The American standard are good basses, just enjoy it the way it is. If you're going to sell it, it will bring a better price with the orginal finish. Good luck. |
