I bought this from a guy who said he sold it to a guy for his son (punk rock bass player) and bought it back after he pretty much destroyed it. Structually its fine but it sure is ugly LOL. I was told it was a 60's Fender but I kinda doubt it. I bought it based on it being a junked out old no name bass so I'm not out anything if its not a Fender.
Any and all opinions are welcome and Thanks

Craig

The headstock does look Fendery and the body shape looks like a Precision, but it's unusual in that:
1. It didn't have a pickguard- it wasn't designed for one- that's why it has the access plate in back.
2. It has both the normal split Precision bass pickup, plus the Jazz Bass bridge pickup.
Not many Fender and/or Squier models have both of them.
This is called the P/J configuration.

The current Fender Bass that it resembles most is this one:
fender.com/products/search.php...146500323
The Duff McKagan Precision Bass. But the control layout is different.

The blurb on it says it's based on an 80's era Jazz Bass Special which has that pickup configuration
and a Jazz Bass neck on a Precision Bass body.

Precision Basses have the bridge closer to the bottom edge, and the bottom edge of the guitar is straight parallel
(until it curves) with the end of the bridge. That's why I think yours is a Precision body.

Here's an interesting thread on the Jazz Bass Special.
Check out the blue bass from Madd Anthony 59-
Except for the maple fingerboard and heavy duty bridge,
it resembles yours more in the crucial area of the control layout, and
also the headstock... but it doesn't say what model it is!!!

Three Fingers, might be a Mexican version of a PJ bass. Does it have Fender logo on any of the hardware, say on the tuners or tail piece? No ser# on neck back plate,Mexicans had ser# in decal form on head stock. Yours appears to have been refinished so they would'nt be there. The body appears to be ash,has correct head stock design. The pick-up selector switch throws me a bit, have'nt seen that. My guess is a Mexican PJ that has been modified. If it plays well it's as good as any I'd keep her and enjoy!

I had a similar looking Fender bass, in the '80s (I think). It was called a Fender Jazz Bass Special. It had both J and P pickups and a P-Bass shaped body. I didn't think it was all that 'special' and traded it in for something else.
