Has anyne had any experience with MarkBass products? I noticed a couple amps that looked interesting to me.
They have a Micro Bass, and a MiniMark combo amp. The Micro weighs less than 10 lb. Right now that is looking pretty good to me!
I play every Tuesday night with a group of between 8 and 14 people in a Jam setting. Every week I drag my amp and Bass Guitar over there.
I have three Bass amps: 1. Ampeg B3 (on wheels) 2. Ampeg BA115 3. Crate 25 Watt (The lightest of the bunch)
Is MarkBass a good option or is there another small amp that works and sounds good? |

I was really impressed by them. I played a little head unit through a single 12 cab and it was really punchy and warm. Sorry i don't remember the model, but I do recommend checking them out.
I just went to website and I'm pretty sure it was a TA501 I played. Yep, good amp. |

Take a look at the Phil Jones line of amps. I use both the Flightcase and a Briefcase. The briefcase has the option of running on battery. Adding the battery does increase the weight as it's a lead-acid type and fairly hefty. |

Thanks for the comments guys! Both Mark Bass and Phil Jones make interesting products. We have a local music store that sells Phil Jones and I have been admiring the Briefcase for about a year now.
I'm facinated by the MarkBass claim that their little Mini weighs 10 lbs and is 10 inches square.
I think one of the two brands is in my future! |

I was knocked out by the Mark Bass amps. They are expensive but incredible. I bought the 12" speaker square cube version for larger gigging with my Eminence acoustic upright bass, and it rocks small clubs. I also bought the 2 6" "briefcase" style for my regular upright bass, and it is outstanding as well. Extremely strong and loud with great tone. They are expensive but worth it. I bought mine at the dreaded Guitar Center, where you have a 30 day no-questions-asked return policy. Get one and try it. Good luck.

Have used lots of amps big and small and for the money, the Hartke Kickback 12" and 15" are hard to beat. 120 watts and less than 50 lbs with an aluminum cone speaker that has lots of punch, but plenty of low end too. I use the Kickback 12" for smaller venues and and Eden 15" rig for a bit bigger rooms. Both work well and have xlr out for house speaker integration. The Hartke 12" can be had on EBAY new for $300.00 and under. |
