Hello Greg Connor - Bass Hangout is a neat place ...don't have all those thousands and thousands of Banjo Hangout guys but this Hangout is growing. I think Eric has another home run in process with this Hangout.
Yes, "On the Sunny Side" is an original. I don't think anyone else would claim it.
I was reading the mail on Ashbury Bass. I see you have one. They are prettty neat. That short scale makes them a little sensitive to tuning, but it can be done. How do you like it?
I love the Ashbory. They are a bit of a challenge as far as intonation, as they're fretless (they have marker lines where the frets would be) as well as the short scale (18 inches.) The tone more than makes up for that. It works very well with bluegrass and other acoustic music. The sustain is shorter and more like an upright. The only problem is the propensity of the thinner strings to break, but it seems if the strings make it through the first few weeks they can last a while. I mainly use my Ashbory for multi-track recording projects, but my girlfriend plays it in jams. We use a little Crate Powerblock head and a 10" Fender monitor speaker to amplify it. She can sing while she plays it. Strangely enough, I can't, but I can sing and play rolling backup on the banjo. Something I should work on.
