How about an area for acoustic bass players and/or double bass fiddle players as well as electric? |

Eric , I agree , a Double Bass forum would be great , A question could have a different answer depending on the what kind of bass someone is playing. They are almost like two different instruments.

Until the membership/# of posts grows, I would prefer to keep them consolidated into one forum. Otherwise if you spread yourself too thin, people's posts don't get seens or replied to. |

When its time, it would be good to separate forums - an upright or double fiddle is a viol, and can be played arco or pizzicato, while an "electric" or acousticd bass is actually a bass guitar, always played piz, and sometimes with a plectrum. They are interchangeable on some types of music, but each has an essence that makes it very different. |

I think it will be interesting to see which type of or how many forum posts will be populated by which style of bassist. I play electric and double bass and although they are different, I just love bass guitar and playing bass guitar whether I'm playing bluegrass, swing and jazz on my upright or whether I'm geeking out on some electric modern stuff or fillin in at the studio or on the road in a rock group or death metal band hehe.. I would like to see the cards fall where they may and I believe that evolution will take it's course, although it is in my heart to see it populated by every kind of bass player from every genre and people will respond (forum wise) where appropriate. I believe if it went forward like that, theres no telling what other directions it will push people in who may have been intimidated by one style or another or electric or a double bass, whatever the case, it could bring some good to someone. Also, once again, Eric I appreciate you for gettin this up and off the ground. Bravo bud.. I've been a member at the Banjo hangout ofr goin on 3 years and it's made me friends around the states I wouldn't know what to do without and propelled my playing unbelievably with the resources found there and has just made a big part of my music life much more full and I believe this and the outher hangout sites can do the same for everybody :) Thanks! |
